Today I’m sharing a tutorial on how I made my pinkalicious wands from my daughter’s Pinkalicious party.
This is what I was going for.
I was trying to make something that the kids could take home and use for pretend play and it wouldn’t just be trashed after one day.
Here’s what I used:
sheet of yellow firm felt
wood dowels (painted pink and blue for the boys)
hot glue gun
embroidery floss and needle
I cut 2 star shapes out of the firm felt (I just googled ‘star shape’ and printed out a template, you could also use a cookie cutter).
Cut a length of ribbon about 12 inches long. Trim the ends like this.
Use a lighter and burn the ends slightly to prevent the ribbon from fraying.
Fold the ribbon in half so that one side of the ribbon hangs slightly longer than the other. Hot glue at the fold onto an indentation on the felt star.
Hot glue the dowel over top, using a fair amount of glue so the dowel doesn’t come loose, and quickly sandwich the second felt star over top. Press down for a few seconds.
Use embroidery floss and a running stitch all around your star to fasten the two stars together.
And bring the needle back up through the felt and trim.
Trim any uneven edges with scissors.
For the boys, I just eliminated the ribbon and used blue paint for the dowels.
Have fun!! And have a great Labor day!
